#NYPD hunting for violent ex-con in Brooklyn double-homicide

Cops are hunting a violent ex-con who they believe used an AR-15 style rifle to gun down a man and a woman in East New York over the weekend.

Charles Hernandez, 47, is wanted in connection to the pair slayings on Van Siclen Avenue near Livonia Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said in a Sunday tweet.

Disturbing video included in Harrison’s tweet shows the gunman running up the street before 27 rounds can be heard popping off in quick succession.

The gunman, wearing a blonde wig and blue trench coat, is shown darting back down the street as screams are heard in the background.

Police sources on Saturday identified the victims as Chioteke Thompson, 23, and Stephanie Perkins, 39.

Thompson was shot once in the face and Perkins struck once in the back as they sat on a front stoop. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson and Perkins were found slumped over on the stoop with their arms around each other, a source said, with Thompson cradling Perkins’ head.

Hernandez, who is also identified as Charles Joy in state corrections records, was sentenced to five to 15 years behind bars in 1992 for assault, weapons possession and reckless endangerment. In 2006, he returned to prison on a 12-to-15 year sentence for criminal possession of a weapon. He was released on parole in October 2018, records show.

Police say Hernandez is known to drive a blue 2007 Chevrolet CBT with the New York Plate JHV7930. He is described as “armed and dangerous.”

Police did not have details on the motive for the slaying as of Monday morning.
