In stunning audio obtained by The Post early Saturday — after at least a dozen shootings across four boroughs overnight — cops can be heard referencing the dire situation after a woman called the NYPD seeking an escort home.
“Female [inaudible] feels uncomfortable walking home, states that she is walking home, and it’s a warzone. Combination of fireworks and gunshots,” one officer says, according to the recording which was confirmed by a law enforcement official.
“Welcome to New York,” a second officer quips.
“Tell me about it,” the first cop agrees. “[She] heard four to five rounds.”
The radio call was made somewhere in Southeast Queens, where a 911 caller reported shots fired at 175th Street and Sayres Avenue around 8:30 pm.
Department brass has heard the call, an NYPD spokesperson said Saturday, and it is under review.
From Monday through Saturday afternoon, there were at least 46 shootings across the five boroughs, according to the NYPD.
Reports of illegal fireworks are also on the rise, with complaints rising 4,000 percent during the first two weeks of June.
