There was no masking their excitement.

The city’s tiniest students kicked off their formal educations amid an unprecedented pandemic Monday — but bravely embraced the challenge with good cheer and hope for the future.

“I love school!” announced 4-year-old Cassius Sanchez-Snead after his first slate of pre-K classes at PS 20 in Clinton Hill.

While Mayor de Blasio delayed the start of the academic year for older kids until next week, the bell rang Monday for roughly 90,000 early education enrollees in 3-k and Pre-k programs along with some special education students.

Wearing masks and holding still for temperature checks at newly opened buildings across the city, many of the energized tots entered classrooms for the first time.

Gemma Taylor, 3, said she managed to establish a circle of pals at PS 20 in just a matter of hours during Monday’s abbreviated schedule.

Asked about her favorite part of the morning, the youngster didn’t hesitate.

“I played with my friends,” she said with a grin.

Aliana, 4, said she wasn’t quite ready to return home after the final bell rang.

She shook her head in the affirmative when asked if she was sad to head back to the house after the day’s thrills.

City parents were also relieved to finally have a few hours of liberation Monday after months of COVID-19 family immersion.

Cassius’s mom, Nicole Sanchez, said she saw immediate benefits after getting back home from dropping him off.

“I was drinking my coffee with nobody asking me to watch Paw Patrol,” she said. “I was like ‘this is great!’”

Lucia’s dad, Gabriele Caroti, said she was able to put her suddenly available free time to good use.

“For the last six months I’ve been her primary caregiver,” she said. “It’s been good to be back (at school). I got a lot of work done.”

At PS 205 in Elmhurst, Queens, Bruce Pinner, 42, said his little girl, Zoe, showed maturity beyond her years Monday.

The 4-year-old managed to handle her mask responsibilities and made her dad proud.

“She’s getting more and more used to it,” he said after picking her up. “She understands that it’s for safety so she doesn’t get sick.”

Pinner said he hoped the remainder of the year would proceed as smoothly as the first day.

“Hopefully it just keeps up for the rest of the year and everything goes fine,” he said.
