#NYC house fire leaves more than dozen injured, infant in critical condition

Two Brooklyn fires left more than a dozen people injured Saturday morning, including an infant that was listed in critical condition.

A two-alarm house fire broke out at 716 E. 89 St. in Canarsie around 9:30 a.m., according to the FDNY.

Firefighters rescued a one-month-old and a 6-year-old child from the second floor of the private home, police said.

The infant was unconscious and unresponsive and was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition, according to the NYPD.

“(The fire) had burned through a few of the steps, making it impossible to get to the second floor,” said FNDY Chief Stephen Moro. “We needed to use portable ladders.”

Six other residents and two firefighters also suffered less serious injuries, according to authorities.

“The fire took off and went through all the voids in the building,” Moro said. “It gutted the first and second floor. There was a lot of debris, so we spent a lot of time searching, making sure everyone was accounted for.”

Two residents — an 85-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman — were injured and taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, police said.

A 52-year-old woman was also taken to Woodhull Hospital as 25 fire units knocked down the blaze, according to authorities.

Both fires are now under investigation.
