#NY state Assembly aide charged with sexual assault of teenage girl

A longtime aide to New York State Assemblyman Peter Abbate, Jr. was arrested over the weekend for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman, police and a legislative source said Sunday.

Joseph Brady — who is the Brooklyn Democrat’s legislative director — was nabbed Saturday and charged with attacking the young woman at a home in Watervliet, according to cops and the source.

Law enforcement officials, including FBI agents, raided the home after learning Brady may have been keeping firearms, explosives and narcotics there, cops said.

A former staffer in Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s state legislative office, Brady rakes in more than $118,000 a year in his current post, according to The Albany Times Union, which first reported on his arrest.

Law enforcement sources told the newspaper that Brady allegedly sexually assaulted the woman after sending her 16-year-old boyfriend out to buy drugs. She and her boyfriend had apparently been staying with Brady.

When the teenage boy came back to the residence, he found that his girlfriend had been moved to a bedroom and looked disheveled and disoriented, according to the report.

The teens fled but Brady allegedly confronted them in an alley outside where he flashed what looked like a gun, the newspaper reported, adding the couple was able to get to a nearby home to call for help.

No firearms were recovered, but authorities found materials they suspect were being put together to make explosives or fireworks, according to the paper’s sources.

Brady — who’s been known to dabble in amateur MMA fighting — is also associated with a motorcycle gang that has ties to the Hells Angels, the report said.

He was hit with a slew of charges including sexual abuse, a felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Brady was being held at the Albany County jail Sunday night on $50,000 bail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

A phone call to Abbate wasn’t returned Sunday night. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie also did not immediately return a request for comment.
