After skipping the Android 10 update, NVIDIA is now pushing Android 11 to all NVIDIA Shield TV streaming devices, including the original NVIDIA Shield TV from 2015. This update, which is bundled in “SHIELD Experience 9.0,” enables a handful of new features and improvements for your premium Android TV device.

The standout new features in Android 11 include the upgraded Gboard keyboard, expanded permission controls, and finally, support for the aptX codec with compatible wireless headphones.

Of course, this update also improves the NVIDIA GeForce Now cloud gaming experience. If you subscribe to the new GeForce Now RTX 3080 tier, your NVIDIA Shield TV can now simultaneously play games from the cloud and stream high-quality video to Twitch. Also, NVIDIA added support for extra Bluetooth keyboards and mice.

And if you’re a new Shield owner, you can redeem six months of Peacock Premium for free simply by signing into a Google account. (After signing in, click the Peacock Premium banner on the For You or Apps tab and provide a valid form of payment.)

NVIDIA Shield TV users should see a notification for the SHIELD Experience 9.0 update on their Android TV home screen. Bear in mind that this update may take some time to reach all users.
