The Giants could not rally Monday night in their season opener, falling to the Steelers, 26-16. There were some positives to take away from the loss, but no moral victories in the NFL. To look back at Monday night’s game, we present a brand new episode of your favorite Giants podcast “Blue Rush” with two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Tynes and Paul Schwartz.

Tynes and Schwartz open up the show with what positives Giants fans can take away from the loss. Tynes felt Daniel Jones made strides and showed poise in the pocket against an elite Steelers defense. The guys felt the Giants had chances to win this football game and despite Jones’ strong play, he made a mistake on the interception, which ended a long drive that could have changed the outcome of the game. The key will be avoiding turnovers for the second-year QB, but Giants fans should be encouraged from what they are seeing. The offensive line was not a very encouraging sign though, which played a big part in Saquon Barkley’s historically bad day on the ground. Are the guys worried at all about his performance or is that just a testament to how dominant the Steelers front seven is? They also break down Darius Slayton’s development and how he is quickly going from an unknown to a potential No. 1 receiver for Big Blue.

Herbstreit talks about his first NFL broadcasting experience, what it was like calling the game with no fans and how gracious both teams were for them. Herbstreit then gets into the game, what he saw from Jones, the Steelers defense playing incredible and he gets into Joe Judge’s coaching experience and his journey to get here. He talks about why Giants fans should be optimistic, why the offensive line was the major reason for Barkley’s struggles and Big Ben’s impressive return from a serious injury. Herbstreit also explains why he thinks the Big Ten should be playing this season and whether he would call NFL games more often.
