For a few years now, Noname has spearheaded two outreach projects: Noname Book Club, which sends a new book to prisoners around the United States every month, and a brick-and-mortar community hub in Los Angeles called the Radical Hood Library. Over the weekend, the critically acclaimed rapper revealed that both of the endeavours were in trouble.

“It costs THOUSANDS of dollars to send books to our incarcerated readers for FREE every month,” Noname posted on Instagram. “Over the years our Patreon subscribers have dropped considerably, putting our entire program at risk of closure.” Their work would be able to proceed, Noname continued, if they were able to reach a goal of 10,000 paid subscribers on Patreon.

On Monday morning, Noname revealed that the goal had been met in less than 24 hours. “February was slated to be the month we close operations due to a lack of funds. Now I’m sitting here crying tears of joy.” The success of the fundraising drive also meant that more people asked for their incarcerated loved ones to be added to the Book Club’s membership list.

“When we get to 15k paid subscribers we will have enough to add new folks to our book mailing list! Please keep sharing and subscribing.” New supporters can sign up on Patreon with memberships starting at just $1/month.
