#Nelly fans wait for hours, but he never arrives for Michigan show. ‘A huge debacle’

Nelly was a no-show for his performance at a Michigan county fair, leaving fans waiting for hours with nothing to show for it.

Allegan County Fair officials will issue refunds to those who purchased tickets for the Saturday, Sept. 9 show. But for many, that is not enough.

“So… Allegan County Fair. How scum do you have to be to collect everyone’s gate fee and parking for a concert you knew wasn’t going to happen?” one person said on Facebook.

The Nelly performance was announced in May and had been widely promoted by fair organizers.

Pictures show the venue packed for Saturday’s show, which was kicked off by a performance by Trae Landon. The opener, Facebook users said, told the crowd Nelly was waiting for them backstage.

But Nelly wasn’t actually at the venue. Fans waited hours for Nelly, who ultimately never took the stage.

Met by a barrage of boos, a fair organizer told spectators Nelly was stuck on a runway on a plane and would not make it to the show.

“This is the worst thing that can happen to our venue, and we’re sorry,” the fair representative said, shown in video uploaded to Facebook.

According to a Allegan County Fair statement obtained by WWMT and WXMI, Nelly’s plane was grounded due to “inclement weather.” Nelly has not publicly commented on the situation.

It’s unclear where the “Hot in Herre” rapper was traveling from.

Concertgoers were left puzzled at how the night unfolded.

“Good job Allegan County Fair. What a huge debacle,” one woman said on Facebook. “How about don’t let people sit there for 2 hours not knowing what’s going on before canceling your concert.”

“They let us keep spending lots of money on food and drinks for hours, while they knew the whole time he wasn’t there,” another commenter said.

Fans who purchased their tickets online will reportedly be automatically refunded.

Allegan County is in western Michigan about 40 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
