Former Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon is being investigated by the NHL after being accused of using a racial slur on at least one recent occasion.

According to multiple reports, Tallon, whose 10-year tenure with the team ended two weeks ago following the expiration of his contract, allegedly made a racist remark while with the team in the Toronto bubble for their qualifying round series against the Islanders. The Associated Press reported the investigation, which began more than a week ago, is looking into multiple alleged incidents.

“I am not racist by any means,” Tallon told ForidaHockeyNow. “I have never said anything of the sort. I am all for peace, am all for this alliance and what everyone is trying to do right now.”

FloridaHockeyNow reported that the situation didn’t play a role in Tallon’s removal from the position.

“For the last decade, Dale raised the team’s profile, attracted key players to South Florida and brought character and class to our franchise,” owner Vinnie Viola said in a statement upon Tallon’s Aug. 10 departure.

The league investigation comes amid the decision of NHL teams to postpone two consecutive days of playoff games in support of the social justice movement. Games are scheduled to resume Saturday.
