The NHL and NHL Players Association officially ratified a four-year extension to the collective bargaining agreement, which will run through the 2025-26 season, and a ‘Return to Play’ plan on Friday. The agreement gives a green light to complete the 2019-20 season, a six-year outline to sustain the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and four years of labor peace.

Finalizing the ratification vote for both the protocols and a CBA extension was the last step before the league officially could go ahead with its 24-team playoff tournament.

Teams will now hold training camp beginning Monday before traveling to their respective hub cities — either Toronto or Edmonton — for the 2019-20 playoffs on July 26. The league is aiming for the qualifying round to begin Aug. 1.

The conference finals and Stanley Cup finals will be played in Edmonton, but that is subject to change.
