A woman caught in frightening video trying to outrun a bison at Yellowstone National Park proved that if all else fails – “play dead.”

A bystander caught chilling footage of two visitors to the sprawling park on Friday, when one of the beasts began chasing them. The two take off running, but one of them trips and falls.

“Play dead! Play dead!” other tourists are heard screaming as the woman remains motionless on the ground.

The beast walks up to her, stands for a moment and then gallops away after apparently losing interest.

Cloie Musumecci, who recorded the scary encounter, told MTN News that it occurred at Nez Perce Creek, in the Wyoming portion of the roughly 3,500-square-mile park that spans neighboring Montana and Idaho.

The woman “is a Montana local so she knew to play dead in that situation,” Musumecci told the outlet, adding that she escaped “without a scratch.”

And lucky for her since bison are the largest mammals in North America – with males weighing up to 2,000 pounds, according to the Department of Interior.

Yellowstone officials urge visitors to remain at least 25 yards from wild animals at the park, including bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes — and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves.
