The previously announced «The Lord of the Rings» anime has received a theatrical release date and we are allowed to see a first concept artwork…

Already last year a Anime-Film announced for the “Lord of the Rings” franchise. Warner Bros. now has more details on it «The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim» announced. The epic surrounding JRR Tolkien’s Rings saga will take place about 2 centuries before “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” in the Third Age. The story focuses on the ninth king of Rohan named Helm Hammerhand and how he conquered the fortress Helm’s Deep has built.

the US theatrical release is for the 12. April 2024 planned and for Germany is the 11. April 2024 according to Warner Bros. Japanese animation studio Sola Digital Arts, director Kenji Kamiyama and producer Joseph Chou are involved in the project. The anime «Blade Runner: Black Lotus» by Kamiyama and Chou is currently running from the same studio. The screenwriter of the two Tolkien trilogies, Philippa Boyens, is on board as executive producer. Her daughter Phoebe Gittins is co-writing the screenplay with Arty Papageorgiou after Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews worked on the basic story.

To date, four animated works have been produced based on JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga. Additionally, in 2020, the seventh episode of “Jujutsu Kaisen” featured a parody of “The Lord of the Rings” depicting Sam and Frodo in anime form. The Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is still coming up this year, which, like the trilogies, is a live-action adaptation.
