#New Amanda Waller Suicide Squad Spin-Off In The Works With Viola Davis Returning

“New Amanda Waller Suicide Squad Spin-Off In The Works With Viola Davis Returning”

Viola Davis is reportedly in talks to reprise her role in a new Suicide Squad spin-off for HBO Max, with James Gunn also on board.

The cat may be out of the bag about the second secret Suicide Squad TV series James Gunn has been working on. According to reports by Deadline, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, the mind behind all of the Suicide Squad’s screen missions, is getting her own spin-off TV show at HBO Max, following in the footsteps of John Cena’s Peacemaker. It is thought that Davis is in talks to star in the series and executive produce as well, with Christal Henry, best known for being a scribe on the Watchmen series, will write and executive produce the show.

James Gunn has been teasing another spin-off from The Suicide Squad for quite some time now, having previously said that his second secret project will be connected to the same universe as the movie and his Peacemaker series, but will not be quite as comedy orientated as the John Cena series was. Considering Amanda Waller’s place in the story of the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, it would make sense that the jokes won’t be coming think and fast in a show centering on her.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Suicide Squad, Waller is “a senior civil servant and director of A.R.G.U.S. who established Suicide Squad, wanting to assemble a team of expendable metahumans who would be used to execute covert operations against dangerous threats.” Viola Davis initially took on the role in the 2016 version of Suicide Squad, returning to reprise the role in James Gunn’s movie much like Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. Following that, the Peacemaker series also made use of Waller, who made a quick cameo in the show.

James Gunn Has Taken the DC Baton and Ran With It

After being handed the opportunity to be part of the Warner Bros. DC world, James Gunn has not exactly been shy about taking on the challenge of bringing the Suicide Squad back to the big screen and going on to expand the characters in new ways for Warner Bros. on the small screen. While Gunn is currently in the last weeks of filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios, he will be returning to Warner Bros. for a second season of Peacemaker, and it looks like he will now have a hand in the Amanda Waller series. The real question though is whether this is actually the new series that Gunn has been teasing, or could there be more in the pipeline?

From Gunn’s frequent Twitter postings, there is every chance that we could see a lot more from the members of The Suicide Squad in the future. Gunn has previously made it clear that he would love to do a series or movie with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and only in the last month has also said that he would love to do something with Weasel, the character played by Sean Gunn in The Suicide Squad, so there is every chance that even if the Amanda Waller series is Gunn’s second spin-off, it is most certainly not going to be the last.
