After endless discussions about his shaky version of events, Alex Murdaugh is finally giving his testimony.

On Thursday, the disgraced South Carolina lawyer took to the stand to plead his case amid allegations he murdered his wife, Maggie, and son Paul on June 7, 2021. And while he’s far from finished answering questions, it’s already been a very revealing day in court!!

According to People, when the defense asked Alex if he had used a gun to “blow his son’s brain out” or to shoot his wife, he denied killing either of them, maintaining:

“I did not shoot my wife or my son.”

As he continued to talk about the emotional night, however, his voice began to shake as he held back tears, saying:

“I could never intentionally do anything to hurt either one of them. Not ever.”

The father went on to discuss his connection with his late son, who was just 22 at the time of his death. Apparently, Alex had nicknamed Paul “Pau Pau” or “Pau Terry,” monikers many people used to refer to him. Describing the young man’s personality, he continued:

“You couldn’t be around Pau Pau without having fun. He was an absolute delight.”

But here’s where things got really inneresting… The defense asked Alex if he had been completely truthful with investigators about his whereabouts on the night of the double murder — and he said NO! He revealed:

“I did lie.”

Alex previously claimed the last time he saw his wife and son was during a family dinner at their home. According to his apparently false previous story, Maggie and Paul then went to the dog kennels on their property without him and he did not see them again until after their murders. So, this is obviously a really shocking lie to admit to! The defense (AKA those on Alex’s team) kept calm as they asked him why he had fibbed — clearly they knew this was coming. Alex blamed it on his drug addiction, noting:

“As my addiction evolved over time I would get in these situations or circumstances where I would get paranoid.”

He explained that he “wasn’t thinking clearly” after he was immediately questioned about his relatives’ deaths. His addiction combined with his “distrust for SLED” led him to lie to protect himself. For this, he apologized, saying:

“I’m sorry that [I lied]. I’m sorry to my son Buster [his surviving son], I’m sorry to Grandma and Pappa T. I’m sorry to both of our families.”

That said, it wasn’t just a one-time lie. When asked why he continued to share the fake details, he stated:

“What a tangled web we weave. Once I told a lie — then I told my family — I had to keep lying.”

It raises the question: what else could he be lying about??

One reason the defense likely decided to get this reveal out of their client is because of explosive evidence that allegedly placed the father at the scene of the crime moments before the killings. As Perezcious readers know, Maggie and Paul were shot dead near the dog kennels on their family’s property at around 8:50 p.m. Alex had argued he was not at the kennels at the time of the deaths, but prosecutors uncovered a video recorded on the 22-year-old’s son phone just minutes before the killings in which all three of their voices could be heard. Several witnesses also testified they heard Alex speaking in the background of the recording.

So he’s owning up to the fact that he was near the dog kennels during that tragic event. And not too long before his relatives were killed. Why?

See, he was already caught in a lie, and that’s clearly going to hurt his case with the jury. So the defense must figure by admitting to the lie but NOT the killing, his story will suddenly make sense? And the jury can believe him now? It may be too little too late as it raises doubts about whether the rest of his alibi was a lie, too!
