Sort of.
The veteran inside linebacker has a new team and a very different spot on the depth chart.
Ogletree signed with the Jets practice squad on Thursday, after spending the last two seasons atop the Giants depth chart and as a defensive co-captain.
The Giants cut Ogletree, 28, in March to save $8.25 million against the salary cap and he remained a free agent until now. He was replaced by Blake Martinez.
Practice squads previously were limited to players with two years or fewer of NFL experience so it is still strange (and no doubt humbling) to see a player of Ogletree’s pedigree added.
Ogletree’s last contract was for $42.75 million over four years. He signed it as an extension with the Rams, where he had his best seasons as a former first-round draft pick. The Giants traded fourth- and seventh-round picks for Ogletree in March 2018.
Ogletree has 173 tackles, six interceptions and two sacks in 26 games for the Giants but was a liability in pass coverage against running backs and tight ends.
The Jets have Avery Williamson, Neville Hewitt, Blake Cashman and Harvey Langi playing on the inside.
