#NBC’s Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Coming to Imax

Imax and NBCUniversal have signed a deal to bring live coverage of the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on July 26 to more than 150 giant-screen theaters in the U.S. as ticketed events.
The agreement will see NBC’s 2024 Olympic Games launch coverage set to take place around the River Seine in Paris, rather than a sports arena, super-sized for Imax screens. Imax and NBCUniversal will then split the box office take.
“We are excited to extend NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony to Imax theaters across the U.S., allowing fans to gather and watch the highly anticipated and awe-inspiring start to the Paris Olympic Games this July,” Rich Gelfond, CEO of Imax, said in a statement on Friday. The deal with NBC marks the first time live coverage of the Olympic Games will screen in Imax theaters.
TV host and singing sensation Kelly Clarkson and NFL great Peyton Manning will join NBC Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico to present NBCUniversal’s coverage of the opening ceremony. The live coverage will also be presented on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo.
“We look forward to providing our opening ceremony coverage to audiences at Imax locations across the country, sharing in this historic moment as the world regathers to witness the spectacular beginning of 16 days of athletic greatness against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” said Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics.
Earlier, NBC announced its daily live daytime coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics will be shown on AMC Theatres screens across the U.S. from July 27 to August 11, also as ticketed events. Select live coverage by NBCUniversal will be shown in around 160 AMC locations, with tickets available via AMC and Fandango.
NBCUniversal owns the U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032.
