#Nanashi Mumei and Hakos Baelz Team Up for Kanaria “QUEEN” Cover

“Nanashi Mumei and Hakos Baelz Team Up for Kanaria “QUEEN” Cover”

Hakos Baelz and Nanashi Mumei of hololive English -Council- have teamed up for a cover of QUEEN by Kanaria under the duo preYdator

The track was mixed by Yoshi Ken. The MV was compiled by Kumashirotarm and features illustrations by Deca Purio. The original track is by Kanaria and features vocals from the GUMI vocaloid.

QUEEN is the second track sung by the preYdator, following a cover of DECO*27’s Animal in September.

“It didn’t take nearly as much time [to produce as Animal did]… like a month maybe” commented Mumei. “We started in September,” added Baelz.

“I had a little trouble recording for QUEEN,” noted Baelz, having done multiple takes to record her vocals. “It was because the range of the song, and the way that you sing it — for me it’s right at that weird spot between head-voice and chest-voice. Like it’s a little bit too high to belt [out] comfortably with all the note changes. But it sounds not-powerful-enough if I only do it with head-voice.

“I had to re-record mainly because I wanted to fit [Mumei] better.”

“It sounded cool,” cited Mumei as the reason for choosing QUEEN as their cover project. “It was fun. It took me a bit to get some parts because it was kind of fast, but when I record I have a hard time choosing what kind of voice to do. I wasn’t sure how to go about it. Sometimes I can be lower and sometimes I can be higher, but I kind of cringe when I listen to myself when I’m lower. I have a hard time submitting it when it’s lower. I’m too self conscious. It sounds too try-hard if I go low. It’s a weird complex that I have.

“I get nervous about it. I get self conscious because somebody is going to have to sit and mix it and listen to our voices over and over. That always intimidates me.

“If my voice goes lower, it’s harder to keep it consistent. I don’t want to sound like different people.”

“You can hear the belting Yoshi Ken can put in the background. That was really cool,” Baelz had to say on the mixing. “We didn’t ask for that. When we got the first draft, I was like ‘that’s cool!’” added Mumei. “When I record with someone else, I wait for the other person to finish their lines because I want to try to match. Especially with timing Japanese — since I don’t speak Japanese I feel that my timing can be really off for certain words and it’s harder for me to remember. It takes me a while to learn it.

“When I record stuff, like with QUEEN, I listen to it over-and-over and replay the same line over-and-over.”

“I like when we sing together. I think our voices go really well together,” Mumei commented as being her favorite part of the project.

“My favourite part of the song is [Mumei’s] very first verse. When [she does] that part, I was like oooh. It was so good!” added Baelz.

hololive English -Council- is the agency’s second wave of five English-language talents. The group debuted in August, 2021 and includes Nanashi Mumei, Hakos Baelz, Ouro Kronii, Ceres Fauna, and alum Tsukomo Sana. Recently, five other hololive talents teamed up for a cover of Ifuudoudou by Umetora.
