Akane Nishimura is a bit flustered by her friend Taiyou Takada's exuberance in a scene from the upcoming My Clueless First Friend TV anime.

The opening theme song performer has been revealed for My Clueless First Friend (known in Japan as Jijou o Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru), an upcoming TV anime based on the everyday comedy manga by Taku Kawamura. The original My Clueless First Friend manga is serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine, and an English language version is also available from Square Enix Manga, who describe the story of the series as follows:

Opposites attract when a cheerful airhead meets the resident wallflower of his new class in this heartwarming, slice-of-life school comedy series!

One lonely, gloomy fifth-grade girl is the target of her classmates’ relentless bullying and teasing—that is, until a new kid arrives on the scene. Friendly Takada is as clueless as he is well-meaning, but somehow he possesses the magic ability to start drawing “Grim Reaper” Nishimura out of her shell. As the elementary schoolers experience all the fun of a childhood summer together—from going to the pool to picking sunflowers to watching fireworks—an unusual friendship blossoms!

A key visual for the upcoming My Clueless First Friend TV anime featuring the main characters Taiyou Takada and Akane Nishimura hurrying down the street while behind them a suburban township crowned by fluffy cumulus clouds is visible.

The My Clueless First Friend TV anime is directed by Shigenori Kageyama and features animation production by Studio Signpost. The series will broadcast in Japan on TOKYO MX, TV Aichi, BS Fuji, Animax, and other stations beginning in April of 2023, and it will also stream on Crunchyroll as part of the spring 2023 anime simulcast season.
