Synth-pop trio MUNA will return with their third studio album, a self-titled LP, this year. MUNA will drop on June 24 via Saddest Factory Records, the label founded by Phoebe Bridgers. She featured on MUNA’s track “Silk Chiffon,” released at the tail end of 2021, and today MUNA have dropped another new track called “Anything But Me.”

If “Silk Chiffon” was about the tremors of a blossoming love, “Anything But Me” is about the definitive end of a romantic relationship. However, closure doesn’t have to mean an absence of possibility for the future, and “Anything But Me” revels in its self-knowledge with every thump of its neon-coated runtime. Check out the song’s music video, in which MUNA escape from a few perilous situations and dance a little bit, below.

Here’s MUNA’s statement on the song:

“Breaking up is hard to do. In the past we’ve stayed in relationships for a long time, waiting until we hit low lows to admit it was over. ‘Anything But Me’ is a song about leaving a partnership simply because it doesn’t feel right. It’s about trusting yourself and your instincts enough to walk away from someone while you still have love for each other and before it gets too bad. The video for the song plays with the idea that we’ve been our own captors in relationships, keeping ourselves in unhealthy dynamics, maybe because that’s what feels familiar. The song embodies the lightness and a playfulness that floods in when you realize that there’s no lock on the door, no one’s holding you back – you can untie the knot and skip into the sunset whenever you’re ready. Now, who can guess what attachment style I have?”

Soon after MUNA drops, the band will tour the United States in support of the album. See those dates below.
