“#More than a third of NYers have received COVID-19 vaccine”
Just over one-third of New Yorkers — and almost 40 percent of New York City residents — have now been vaccinated against COVID-19, the latest state data shows.
Since inoculation efforts began in mid-December more than 6.8 million Empire State residents or 34.4 percent of New York’s population have gotten at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to the data.
Over 4.3 million New Yorkers or 21.7 percent of the state’s population have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
To date, more than 10.8 million doses have been administered statewide, according to the statistics from the state Health Department.
And the Big Apple is outpacing New York state — with 38 percent of city residents getting at least one shot, and 24 percent now fully inoculated.
New York City has administered at least one vaccine shot to more than 2.5 million Gotham residents and more than 570,000 non-city residents, city Health Department data shows.
The city has administered a total of more than 4.7 million vaccine shots since immunization efforts started.
That’s “more doses than there are people in the state of Louisiana,” Mayor Bill de Blasio noted during a City Hall press briefing Thursday.
“We’re getting near the 5 million vaccination mark,” de Blasio said, reiterating that the Big Apple’s “goal” is to have 5 million New Yorkers fully inoculated by June.
Nationally, 33.1 percent of the US has now received at least one dose, according to the CDC.
