“Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy snaps at reporter after loss”
Don’t ask Mike Gundy about a potential staff shakeup.
The Oklahoma State head coach threatened to “cut out” access to a reporter who asked about possible changes following the Cowboys’ 24-17 loss to Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Tuesday night.
“With the portal now, staff changes happen earlier and earlier in the year… do you anticipate making any changes to your staff between now and the end of the season?” the reporter asked Gundy after the game.

“Do you think I would tell you if I was making staff changes?” a clearly frustrated Gundy replied. “Then why would you ask?”
When the reporter responded they had to ask as it’s part of their job, Gundy fired back, “Well, I might have to cut you out.”
“Don’t be an ass,” the coach continued. “Really? Those are people’s lives, man. That’s people’s families. Don’t mess with people’s families. Let’s do this the right way … it’s not fair to people’s families, man. I’m not mad about the game, I just don’t like ignorance.”

Tuesday’s loss dropped Oklahoma State to 7-6 to end the season after a 6-1 start. Oklahoma State’s offense and defense declined down the stretch this season following a 12-2 campaign last year with a Fiesta Bowl win over Notre Dame.
The Cowboys averaged just 14.2 points per game over the season’s final six contests.

Oklahoma State also allowed 29 points per game this season under first-year defensive coordinator Derek Mason in comparison to 18 points per game in 2021 under Jim Knowles, who currently serves as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Ohio State.
Gundy is in his 18th season as head coach at Oklahoma State.
