#Mom of autistic boy shot by cops says he was ‘scared’ and running away

The distraught mother of a 13-year-old Utah boy with autism demanded answers Wednesday about why officers shot him numerous times when she called for help.

“He was scared. He was running,” Golda Barton told the East Idaho News.

“I just want to know why they would do such a thing,”she said of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

“Like, why … why didn’t you do anything else, anything else,” she said.

Barton’s son, Linden Cameron, who has Asperger’s syndrome, remained at a local children’s hospital after being shot on Friday night.

“Linden said you know what mommy, they didn’t hurt me. I didn’t feel it. I’m a Superman,” Barton told the paper.

The mom said she’d called cops for help because the yelling, screaming boy was suffering a mental breakdown.

But when cops knocked at the door of the family’s Glendale home, Linden fled the house in fear, she said.

She was in her car when she heard the gunfire.

“I heard the guns and the yelling and the guns, and then I sat there in my car for what felt like a long time and I was waiting for someone to walk over to me because I didn’t know what just happened,” said an emotional Barton.

“And I was like OK, um, OK … they just unloaded a whole clip in my son, and probably he’s dead because he’s so small.”

The boy suffered injuries to his intestines, bladder, shoulder and ankles.

“He said he can’t feel any feeling in his left hand. From my understanding he got shot in both feet,” his brother, Wesley Cameren, said.

“So now we’ll never be able to do the things we used to do, like longboard and play video games together.”
