#MOLMAX Anime Film Gets Sequel

A sequel film for the recently released Pui Pui Molcar the Movie: MOLMAX anime film has been announced to be in the works. The announcement was confirmed on the first day of the film’s theatrical release in Japan on November 29, 2024. 

Mankyu (The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague) directed the new CG film, with Yuko Kakihara (Buddy Daddies, Cells at Work!) writing the script and screenplay, and Tomoki Misato (Pui Pui Molcar season 1 director) serving as chief supervisor and original creator. TOHO NEXT is distributing the film, while Monster’s Egg is in charge of the film’s animation production.  

The film features two voice cast members that played human characters in the film, which include Masaki Aiba as the CEO of the Many Many Eyes Company and Akio Otsuka as Dodge’s driver. 

Other voice cast members include Akari Kito as Otohime, Ayumu Murase as Canon, and Yukari Tamura as Great Magic Angel Morumi. 

Pui Pui Molcar the Movie: MOLMAX was animated in 3DCG in contrast to the original Pui Pui Molcar anime series’ stop-motion animation. 

The first season of Pui Pui Molcar aired in 2021, followed by the second season Pui Pui Molcar Driving School in 2022. Shin-Ei Animation and Japan Green Hearts handled the animation production for the first and second seasons. A compilation film of the first season was released in July 2021. 

The series has inspired numerous merchandise, a Nintendo Switch video game, and several cross-franchise collaborations.  

Netflix is streaming both seasons of Pui Pui Molcar, which describes the main synopsis as:

They’re guinea pigs! And they’re cars! The fuzzy and adorable molcars have lots of fun adventures in this delightful stop-motion animation.
