#Pregnant woman killed when friend allegedly lured her to party, cut out unborn baby

A pregnant Brazilian woman was killed when her old school friend — who suffered a miscarriage last year — lured her to a fake baby shower, attacked her with a brick and cut out her unborn baby, according to reports.

Flávia Godinho Mafra, a 24-year-old substitute teacher, was 36 weeks pregnant when her body was found by her husband, Valdeli Mafra, on Friday, news.com.au reported.

Their baby girl — named Cecilia — survived the horrible ordeal and was later found by police after being taken to a hospital by the 26-year-old suspect and her husband, who were arrested at the scene.

At the hospital, the baby had cuts on her back, rousing suspicions because the woman had no physical signs of having given birth.

“Flávia disappeared on Thursday afternoon when she left for the supposed baby shower that would take place in São João Batista,” according to a police report cited by the news outlet.

“Two other friends were aware of the event, but were told the day that the event had been canceled,” it added.

Concerns about the woman were raised when she failed to return home from the supposed event.

Her friend claimed the missing mom-to-be had “left with someone else” but when her body was found the following morning, she “confessed” to the brutal crime, news.com.au reported, citing NSC Total.

The suspect told investigators she had suffered a miscarriage in January and had become obsessed with stealing a child, so she decided to swipe her old friend’s child, according to Metro UK.

“She continued to lie to everyone that she was still pregnant,” a police spokesman said, news.com.au reported, citing the Diario Costa Esmeralda.

The suspects dumped Godinho Mafra’s body in an abandoned pottery yard, Metro reported.

During a brief ceremony at her burial, friend Jeisiane Benevenute Pacheco described the young woman as a “caring, sweet and very generous person,” Metro reported.

“She was very kind-hearted to people. She trusted people a lot and she ended up trusting this woman who took her life,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cecilia is “doing well” at the Joana de Gusmão Children’s Hospital in Florianópolis, according to news.com.au.

An autopsy will confirm whether she was removed from Godinho Mafra’s womb before or after she was killed.

In a similar case from 2015, Dynel Lane of Colorado lured 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins with a Craigslist ad for baby clothes before ripping out her unborn baby.

Lane even planned to meet her husband for a prenatal appointment on the day of the attack. She told him she had suffered a miscarriage as the gasping baby, who did not survive, lay in a bathtub.

In February 2016, Lane was convicted of attempted murder, assault, and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. She was sentenced to 100 years behind bars, according to the Longmont Times-Call.
