The Minneapolis Police Department gave in to pressure and yanked an online video of a murder suspect’s suicide “out of respect to the individual, his family and the community.”

The department’s sudden about-face came Thursday — a day after it initially tweeted the graphic video, hoping to dispel false reports that cops were somehow to blame for the man’s death, which kicked off a night of violent unrest in the city.

“Yesterday MPD posted a video in order to dispel rumors that caused significant public safety concerns for our city,” the department tweeted. “After receiving feedback from the community, we have removed the video due to the graphic nature and out of respect to the individual, his family and the community.”

Police removed the tweet containing the video, which The Post is continuing to publish.

The clip showed the man — suspected in a murder earlier Wednesday — fatally shooting himself on the Nicollet Mall downtown just as cops close in around 6 p.m. Police tweeted the video about 90 minutes later amid widespread rumors that it was a police-involved shooting. Looting and vandalism continued throughout the night.

Critics aired their complaints on Twitter.

“Tell me again how the MPD respects individuals. I’ll wait,” one tweeted, with a photo of fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin with his knee on the neck of George Floyd.

Someone else tweeted, “bang up job you guys are doing. everyone loves and trusts you more than ever now just bravo all around.”
