#Mike Francesa claims ex-Jets GM Mike Maccagnan called him for advice

Well, this may help explain why Mike Maccagnan is now the former Jets general manager instead of the current one.

Former WFAN talk show host Mike Francesa claims Maccagnan used to speak to him, asking for advice.

“I used to talk to Maccagnan. Maccagnan used to call me,” Francesa said on Adam Schein’s podcast. “Maccagnan was an odd guy. He didn’t do anybody any extra favors. He never gave me a scoop. But he used to call me and pick my brain, I can say that now.”

Francesa said he told Maccagnan he needed a veteran coach, but never suggested he hire Adam Gase. The Packers “killed” Mike McCarthy, Francesa said, during the interview process.

“Then they came up with Gase. I was puzzled by the whole Gase thing,” Francesa said. “I never understood it.”

Maccagnan was fired in May of 2019 and replaced by Joe Douglas. Now Gase is on the hot seat in just his second season.
