Midwin Charles, the prominent Brooklyn defense attorney and MSNBC legal analyst who died at age 47, said in her final Instagram post last month that she was “not feeling well.”
“Hey guys! Sadly, happy hour tonight is canceled. I’m not feeling well. See you next Friday,” Charles posted March 19 along with an emoji of clinking champagne glasses.
Charles’ family announced her death on Tuesday.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart and the deepest sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Midwin Charles,” their announcement read.
“She was known to many as a legal commentator on television but to us, she was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece and cousin. Our lives are forever changed and we will miss her for a lifetime. The family thanks you in advance for your love and prayers,” the statement added.
Charles, who also appeared on CNN and contributed to Essence magazine, earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, then studied law at American University, according to her bio.
She later founded the law firm Midwin Charles & Associates in the Big Apple.
