The next generation of video game consoles is right around the corner.

Microsoft on Wednesday announced that its hotly anticipated Xbox Series X will hit stores on Nov. 10 with a price tag of $499. The machine will go up against Sony’s forthcoming PlayStation 5, which is also expected to make its debut in time for the holiday shopping season.

Microsoft had kept a tight lid on potential pricing on its new console, engaging in a staring contest with Sony over which would blink first. Sony has not yet given any indication of how much the new PlayStation will cost.

The new Xbox will come in two versions, the upscale Series X and the stripped down Series S, which Microsoft said Tuesday will retail for $299.

The $499 price tag for the Series X matches the current selling price of the Xbox One X.

Both consoles will be available through the Xbox All Access installment program, which will allow gamers to pay either $35 or $25 per month for their Series S or Series X for a 24-month period and have access to a library of Xbox games.

The smaller Xbox will only be able to play digital games, and lacks the top-of-the-line processing power of its more expensive big brother.

The consoles will be available for pre-order on Sep. 22, Microsoft said.
