“#Michael J. Fox Used a Marty McFly Action Figure for Christmas Tree Topper”
Michael J. Fox didn’t have a star or angel handy for his office Christmas tree, but a miniature Marty was there to get the job done.
We have seen Fox appear in a variety of roles in his career, but fans especially love his portrayal of time-traveling teenager Marty McFly. The character teams up with eccentric scientist Emmett “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) in 1985’s Back to the Future to get back home after he travels 30 years back in time to 1955. Marty’s adventures took him to the future in the sequel, Back to the Future Part II, followed by a trip to the Old West in the third and final installment of the trilogy, Back to the Future Part III.
Back to the Future has remained a trilogy in the years ever since with no plans to ever make another sequel or a reboot. Christopher Lloyd has said he’d be up for a fourth movie for a long time, as he previously told the Phoenix New Times in 2018, “I’d love to be in a fourth film, if they could come up with the right idea that extends the story and does it as well as the first three.”
“Well, I think it’s a matter of, first of all, it’s important if Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale are excited about doing another episode (of Back to the Future), I think, really, the most important thing is if they can come up with the right idea,” Lloyd added at the time. “I think that’s the challenge is to come up with something that really is as good as the originals. I suppose it could happen. I have not heard that they’re looking for that, if they’ve made up their minds… hey, here’s something we could do, and they believed in it then they might get going to do it.”
Meanwhile, Zemeckis and Gale are both adamant that Back to the Future 4 will never happen. There have been other ways fans have been able to enjoy the original stars paying tribute to the Back to the Future movies, however. Lloyd voices Doc Brown in a video game series by Telltale Game that continues the story of the movie trilogy and feels like an interactive sequel. Michael J. Fox also has a voice cameo in that game as an ancestor of Marty McFly.
Lloyd and Fox also reprised the roles for a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live in honor of the movie’s 30th anniversary. It was fun to see the actors back in character again, even for a comedy sketch on late night television. It may be the closest we’ll get to Back to the Future 4, and you can revisit that sketch below.
Happy holidays to those who celebrate, whether it’s Marty McFly or anything else on top of the Christmas tree. The image of the Marty tree topper was posted by Michael J. Fox on Instagram.
