#Mets’ Jake Marisnick in danger of missing Opening Day

#Mets’ Jake Marisnick in danger of missing Opening Day

The Mets’ outfield depth could be tested with Jake Marisnick dealing with left hamstring tightness.

The outfielder didn’t play in the pair of exhibition games against the Yankees over the weekend and was not in the lineup again Monday for the Mets’ intrasquad game.

With Friday’s Opening Day game against the Braves at Citi Field approaching quickly, Marisnick’s status is in doubt.

Manager Luis Rojas called Marisnick’s situation “day-to-day” and said he took part in the simulated game Sunday at Citi Field, when Jacob deGrom had his final tuneup before the opener.

He’s still been able to take batting practice and do some defensive work, according to Rojas.

Marisnick, 29, arrived in the offseason in a trade with the Astros in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers and is expected to provide a defensive upgrade in center, either splitting time with Brandon Nimmo or as a late-inning replacement — essentially replacing Juan Lagares as a right-handed bat off the bench.

Rojas said the final intrasquad games of spring training 2.0 will play a sizable role in how the Mets put the finishing touches on their roster and that decisions still need to be made.

“We’re definitely closer,’’ Rojas said of coming up with an Opening Day roster. “I feel we’re moving in the right direction. I know Friday [against the Braves] is right there, but these three games [including Monday] are really important.”

They are still working on how they will split up the 30-man roster in terms of pitchers and position players.

Right-hander Walker Lockett was placed on the injured list with lower back discomfort, but Rojas indicated he’s better, but still needs to build up his pitch count.

“He’s in a good place right now,’’ the manager said. “He’s progressing. He’s ramping up. He’s just behind the rest of the group.”

Lockett took part in Sunday’s simulated game, with Rojas saying he “believed” he pitched.

Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil were both hit by pitches Monday, but both appeared fine.

Wilson Ramos wasn’t with the team again Monday, Rojas said Sunday catcher was “dealing with a personal matter.” Tomas Nido, Rene Rivera and Ali Sanchez are the other catchers in camp.

Rivera homered off Steven Matz on Monday and is pleased to be back with the Mets.

“I’m just happy to have an opportunity to get on the roster,’’ Rivera said. “I enjoy being here with the Mets. Whatever happens, happens.”

Rojas said Rivera is in great shape and “looks like a new man with the work he put in coming into camp.”

Pete Alonso will be mic’d up for MLB’s YouTube Channel on Friday and throughout the season, a source confirmed.

Alonso agreed during the spring to have a microphone placed inside first base at Citi Field to capture conversations between Alonso and opposing players. Those chats would then be replayed to fans on various media platforms. Alonso said he was approached by MLB with the proposal.

The first baseman talked about the possibility of participating in a similar project during spring training.

“Just because everybody asks, ‘What did you talk about at first base?’ ” Alonso said during the spring.

Now, he’s taking the next step and will wear the microphone.

Dom Smith continues to hit in spring training 2.0 and Rojas wants to find ways to get him at-bats during the season.

“He’s been solid,’’ Rojas said of Smith, who can fill in at first and in left. “He’s feeling it. He’s smooth at the plate. I’ve definitely been thinking of different things. His versatility is gonna help and having the DH will, too. We want to keep him in there.” The Mets added more cardboard fans in the stands down the left field line at Citi Field.

The first baseman talked about the possibility of participating in the project during spring training.

“Just because everybody asks, ‘What did you talk about at first base?’ ” Alonso said during the spring. “One of the most interesting conversations I’ve had was with Freddie Freeman about wine. He’s a big wino and I love wine also. We were talking, ‘What do you like? What’s your favorite bottle? What’s your favorite make?’ ”

Now, he’s taking the next step and will wear the microphone.
