Megyn Kelly is looking to shake things up with a new podcasting company.

The former TV news commentator and talk-show host is launching “Devil May Care Media” podcasting company, which will debut the first episode of her new podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” at the end of the month, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. Kelly says she hopes the new venture gives her more freedom to speak her mind.

“The No. 1 thing I wanted to do was control my own editorial,” Kelly told The Journal. “To not be doing anyone else’s bidding, not having the pressure of corporate overlords over me, that means one has to be entrepreneurial.”

The self-funded venture marks Kelly’s return to media after a bumpy ride, punctuated by her release from her NBC News contract in 2019.

Kelly became a household name as a star anchor during her 12-year run at Fox News. She was wooed away by NBC News in 2017, inking a lucrative 3-year, $69 million deal to anchor morning show, “Megyn Kelly Today” and a weekly newsmagazine show called “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly.”

Both shows tanked with low ratings as Kelly struggled to make the transition from Fox News. Her NBC career came to a head in late 2018, after she came under fire for questioning why putting on blackface as part of a Halloween costume was racist or insensitive on her morning show.

Now, the 49-year-old former anchor is hoping to regain her voice and lead her own editorial agenda. And she believes being her own boss could offer the chance to more freely explore a range of topics.

“I don’t want the political pressures of working for someone who’s dedicated to taking down Trump or defending him. I don’t want pressure to not say the right thing because it’s going to tick off one group or another,” she said. “You can’t criticize Black Lives Matter because it’s going to upset some corporate sponsor. You can’t have an honest conversation about transgender rights without upsetting one group or another.”

While “The Megyn Kelly Show” is to be the sole podcast to start with, Kelly said she’d eventually like to produce shows from other hosts.

Production company Red Seat Ventures will produce the show and help connect with advertisers. The podcast will be free to listeners and broadly distributed on services such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
