#Protester twerks at cops during Occupy City Hall demonstration

A protester gave police officers an energetic dance show at the Occupy City Hall demonstration Tuesday night — twerking to live drum beats in front of cops guarding the building, video shows.

The dancer is shown booty-poppin’ and busting out other New Orleans-style bounce moves at around 11:30 pm to energize the crowd of roughly 200 protesters, who had gathered near Centre and Chambers streets to urge lawmakers to defund the NYPD.

Several officers didn’t react to the unsolicited 5-minute performance, and others looked away while onlookers cheered, blew whistles and snapped photos, the footage shows.

The bizarre interaction came just hours after a heated stand off between protesters and cops at City Hall in which officers with batons pushed back some angry demonstrators, with one woman shouting, “You are violent!”

After the demonstration Tuesday night, New York City Council passed the city’s $88.1 billion budget just after midnight, slashing NYPD spending by $1 billion.

Protesters have called for lawmakers to defund the NYPD amid outrage over the police killing of George Floyd.

It’s not the first time a member of the public has provided police with a little “backup” — an on-duty cop was caught on video grinding on a marcher at Brooklyn’s West Indian Day Parade after the woman made a cheeky overture in his direction.
