Former Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is close to a deal with the Royals, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Thursday.

Harvey, whose last contract was a minor league deal with the Athletics before he elected to enter free agency after the 2019 season, is expected to report to the team’s minor league system to begin working toward a comeback to the majors.

The Royals will be the fourth team in the last two years for Harvey. After the Mets drafted him seventh overall in 2010, Harvey was successful through his first three years within the organization. After he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013, Harvey began a steady decline that culminated to a second surgery in 2016 to resolve a shoulder injury.

His struggles continued through the 2017 season, including a three-game suspension for violating team rules. It was later revealed Harvey didn’t show up to Citi Field and was suspected to have been partying the night before.

The Mets eventually removed Harvey from the starting rotation and placed him in a bullpen role before designating him for assignment in 2018. Harvey refused that assignment and was later traded to the Reds.

Harvey posted a 3-5 record with a 7.09 ERA in his last professional season with the Los Angeles Angels.
