“Seth MacFarlane’s Ted Series Adds Euphoria Actress to Cast”
The casting of Ubach was reported by Deadline, which confirmed that she will be playing the role of Susan Bennett, who is described as being “kind, selfless and almost pathologically sweet when it comes to caring for her family, and sees the world through naive, rose-colored glasses.” Having appeared in Euphoria’s second season, and also the new season of Kaley Cuoco’s series The Flight Attendant, Ubach has also provided voiceovers in Monsters Inc and animated series Crossing Swords.
The new series will be written, directed, executive produced and co-showrun by MacFarlane and is expected to air on Peacock sometime next year. It will be MacFarlane’s first return to the Ted franchise since 2015’s Ted 2, which didn’t land as well with the critics as its predecessor but still proved to be a big hit at the box office. Having made over $750 million between the two movies, it is no surprise that MacFarlane has been lured back to be the driving force behind the series.
Ted Landed Perfectly in MacFarlane’s Area of Expertise
When Ted arrived in cinemas in 2012, the movie scored a $600 million gross from its pretty small $60 million budget, and part of its success was down to Seth MacFarlane’s love of a good cameo and the 1980s. Featuring numerous references to events and people from the 1980s, when MacFarlane was himself a teenager, the movie even saw Flash Gordon star Sam J. Jones make an extended cameo appearance as both himself and in one memorable scene as Flash Gordon. With MacFarlane in charge of the TV series, there is no doubt that we are in for the same kind of raucous fun all over again.
There is currently little known about how the series will play out, but being set years before the movies will allow MacFarlane to explore something different in the show while continuing to indulge in his love of nostalgic cameos and Easter eggs. Featuring a younger lead will also put Ted in some new situations to deal with, meaning that he won’t be just skipping along the same path as the movies did.
Peacock is looking to expand their streaming platform, and that means new shows based on some of its most popular IPs. Ted will likely provide them with a decent hit, and will sit alongside the likes of their MacGruber, The Lost Symbol and live-action Casper series.
