New video shows a door on a Brooklyn-bound Q train wide open as the train traveled over the Manhattan Bridge above the East River on Sunday night — while a straphanger leans out to record on their phone.
The clip from inside the train, posted on Reddit, shows the right panel of the door hanging open with the outline of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. A rider grabs onto a pole as they stick their arm out of the gap to capture video.
In the comments, the poster claims the door “flew open randomly.”
An MTA rep blamed the snafu on MTA staff.
“NYCT’s initial review concludes that this incident was likely caused by human error – specifically, the door being improperly secured,” spokesman Tim Minton said.
“Both operational personnel and car maintainers are being reminded and reinstructed on protocols for isolating and securing doors when issues arise.”
Straphangers reported the “misaligned” door after the train pulled out of Manhattan’s Canal Street station just after 8:20 p.m., Minton said.
The train was evacuated and taken out of service at DeKalb Avenue station at 8:32, he said.
