#Lil Durk Faces Backlash For Huge Chain Dedicated To Muslim Faith

Lil Durk‘s newfound Muslim faith has landed him in some hot water with some “real” Muslims thanks to his choice in jewelry.

Taking to his Instagram Stories on Thursday (May 2), the rapper revealed that he’d had a customized “Star of Islam” chain made to celebrate his beliefs.

Fans on Our Generation Music’s Instagram post about the matter pointed out that wearing jewelry, especially if it’s made of gold, is haram (that is, forbidden) for men — a fact confirmed by Qu’ran 9:34, which says, “And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of God—give them tidings of a painful punishment.”

In April, Lil Durk put a call out for artists who want to help him put together an event, which he plans on hosting at the Bears’ stadium.

“I’ma do a Smurkchella next year at the bears stadium in Chicago,” he wrote. “it’s gone be a stop the violence event and we gone split half the money with different non profits from big to small. I need help I need every artist who locked in with me to help save these kids.”

He then tagged the non-profit organization he created and added: “@neighborhoodheroesfoundation will help put it together let’s go this my way of giving back without saying it to look cool.”

Lil Durk launched his Neighborhood Heroes non-profit organization in 2020 and has been steadily giving back to his community in the years that followed.

In 2022, they partnered with a non-profit named Chicago Votes to supply inmates and correctional facility workers at the Illinois Department of Correction with 29,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. The initiative was launched to combat the prison system’s lack of access to clean water amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It’s obvious, those locked up or working at a correctional facility are going to be at a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19,” therapper said in a statement at the time. “At the end of the day, this disease ain’t to be played with, and everyone should have the basic hygiene necessities to help prevent catching this virus. It only made sense for my foundation (Neighborhood Heroes) to collaborate with Chicago Votes and IDOC.”

In 2023, the foundation organized a “Dinner with Durk” event in Chicago, giving 30 high school students the opportunity to dine with five mayoral candidates to give the city’s youth a chance to talk about bettering their respective communities.
