The man who attempted to strangle a cop with a chain during a post-Election Day protest in Manhattan has been identified as a resident of a Wards Island psychiatric facility, according to cops.

Levon Wheeler, 30, allegedly shoved a cop to the ground and pressed the chain on the officer’s neck at Bond Street and Broadway in Noho on Thursday night, cops said.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration and disorderly conduct, cops said.

The NYPD tweeted about the incident, adding, “Violence – in any form – is unacceptable. We will be reviewing this incident, and bring any additional perpetrators to justice.”

Wheeler’s address, provided by cops, is the Manhattan Psychiatric Center, a state-run facility on East 125th Street on Wards Island.

He also goes by the alias Antonio Webber, according to police and corrections records.

Records show he was released about a year ago from prison, where he was held on a second-degree attempted robbery charge.

A total of 18 people were arrested during Thursday night’s demonstrations, police said Friday morning.
