#Man charged with backing car into cop at Walmart during mask dispute

A Louisiana man miffed that he was asked to wear a mask at a Walmart slammed his car into a cop as he backed up while leaving the store in a huff, police said.

Ricky L. Taylor, 64, was busted Tuesday outside of a Walmart in West Monroe, where he was asked to put on a face covering as part of the retailer’s new policy, according to an arrest report obtained by KNOE.

An officer at the store offered to give Taylor a mask, police said, but he instead uncorked a profanity-laced tirade toward the cop.

“You can’t make me wear a f—ing mask,” Taylor said, according to the arrest report. “I’m not wearing a f—ing mask!”

The officer told Taylor he was being put on a trespass notice at the store’s request before he was asked to provide his driver’s license, police said.

“I could give it to you but I’m not,” Taylor replied, the Biloxi Sun Herald reports, citing an arrest report posted online.

Taylor then got into his car, but still refused to identify himself, police said. He proceeded to “back up his vehicle up” as the officer was giving a dispatcher his license plate info, according to the arrest report.

The officer – who was struck “two different times,” according to the report — was not knocked down, but did lose his balance during the incident, cops said.

“Taylor stated he could not wear a mask because of a medical condition and stated he did not see the officer behind his vehicle,” the arrest report continued.

Another officer took Taylor into custody after a brief struggle, during which he resisted arrest, police said.

Taylor, of West Monroe, was later charged with resisting an officer, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a police officer and disturbing the peace, police said.

Taylor, who was taken into custody at the Ouachita Correctional Center, was released Wednesday after posting $2,250 bond, a police spokesman told NBC News.

Walmart, meanwhile, announced Wednesday that all shoppers at its more than 5,000 stores, including Sam’s Club, would be required to wear face masks beginning on Monday.

“This will give us time to inform customers and members of the changes, post signage and train associates on the new protocols,” the announcement read.

“It’s unfortunate that a person would display their displeasure about a policy intended to keep associates, customers and the community safe, in such an inappropriate manner,” a Walmart spokesman told The Post Friday in a statement.
