Highlights from Tuesday’s Giants practice.

Drilled

The defense dominated the two-minute drill. Daniel Jones completed only one pass and could not pick up a first down. There was a sack and a pressure from Markus Golden and a pass off Sterling Shepard’s hands on fourth down. Colt McCoy performed better within the second group, moving the offense in range for a field goal.

Getting Feisty

Daniel Jones and C Nick Gates took off on a penalty lap after botching an exchange, but that was merely an appetizer for what came next. LB Lorenzo Carter and TE Evan Engram got tangled while blocking on a Wayne Gallman TD run. Carter came out of the scrum with Engram’s helmet and angrily flung it to the ground. Engram and Carter had to be separated. Joe Judge was ticked and sent Engram off on a lap.

Caught My Eye

Giants defensive backs are practicing while grasping a tennis ball taped to their hand. This is designed to prevent them from opening their hand, making them unable to reach out and hold offensive players.

“To be honest with you, we’re not gonna accept penalties so we’ll find any little trick we can to go ahead and teach ‘em,’’ head coach Joe Judge said.

The Giants had the eighth-most defensive holding penalties in 2019 with 14.

Medical Report

LB Ryan Connelly continues to sit out. He is coming off knee surgery and has been on the side four consecutive days after a strong start to camp. Others held out of practice were FB Eli Penny, C Spencer Pulley, special teams ace Nate Ebnerand TE Rysen John.
