#Mets’ Marcus Stroman offers to coach Tampa ballplayers during MLB wait

While MLB owners and players remain at odds amid negotiations to start the 2020 season, the Mets hurler is lending his expertise to young aspiring baseball players. Stroman, who is currently residing in the Tampa Bay area, has offered to assist youth, high school and college players in the area during the delay.

“Any high school baseball teams in the Tampa area that would like a volunteer assistant pitching/mental/vibe coach…LET ME KNOW!” Stroman tweeted Monday.

“College teams works too!” the 29-year-old later added. “I’m coming out to kick it, talk life, and teach y’all some sinkers and sliders. I’m excited for this. I have nothing but knowledge to spread to the youth!”

Stroman, who earned an All-Star nod in his first season with the Mets, later added further instruction for interested coaches on Twitter Tuesday, telling them to email [email protected] with “the age group, team name, location, workout times/dates in the next few weeks/months, and some enlightening information about your squad!”

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were more than 300 responses for Stroman’s services.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Stroman owns a $1.7 million waterfront home in Tampa and a condo in Dunedin, according to county tax records.

After 5 ½ seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Stroman was traded to New York at the July 2019 deadline in exchange for pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson. Stroman posted a 10-13 record in his first season in Flushing, accumulating a 3.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
