Netflix has renewed Lucifer Season 6 as the final, FINAL season

Lucifer Season 6 is officially happening. Rejoice, Lucifans!

The news comes just a day after Netflix officially confirmed the release of Lucifer Season 5A. It also comes after months of questions about the future of the show.

When the fifth season was renewed, Netflix made it clear that it would be the final season and there would be 16 episodes. Then a few months later, Netflix opened talks with Warner Bros. TV Studios to bring a sixth season of the story. That entered a state of unknown until Tom Ellis was able to negotiate a new contract.

And so, here we have it. Lucifer Season 6 is officially happened. Netflix also says that it’s the final season, but doesn’t have an episode count yet.

It’s been the final season before

Can we really believe that it’s going to be the final season? Let’s consider the fact that FOX canceled the show after three seasons, so we’ve already been through the fear of the show ending once. Fortunately, Netflix saved the show after everyone realized the voices around the world are loud.

Then Netflix said that Season 5 would be the last. We even got 16 episodes split into two halves, which follows the likes of Fuller House. Five seasons is a good ending point for most TV shows, in my opinion. But I know lots of people want to see their favorite shows on the air for longer.

Netflix quickly did a U-turn on the decision to end the series. Lucifer is one of the most binge-watched shows, after all. TVLine reports that the show was the No. 1 most binge-watched show for eight weeks straight on TV Time. It’s no wonder that Netflix realized there was enough interest to do a U-turn.

All good things do come to an end

In a way, I do hope that there won’t be another U-turn. All good things have to come to an end. I was ready for Season 5 to be the end.

All that I want is for the showrunners and writers to have the chance to craft a good ending—the ending they want to tell. That seems to be what they gained with the fifth season renewal, but now they have to flesh out stories for an extra season. I don’t want to see them have to push content at the risk of good storytelling, so if Lucifer Season 6 is the final season, please just make that decision and stick to it.

What do you think about the Lucifer Season 6 renewal? What do you hope to see at the very end? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
