“LSU’s Olivia Dunne ‘only taking steps forward’ after NY Times drama”

Olivia Dunne is looking ahead following a dramatic week.

A short time after calling out The New York Times over the piece, “New Endorsements for College Athletes Resurface an Old Concern: Sex Sells,” the LSU gymnast shared a new video on TikTok that featured a curious caption.

“Only taking steps forward,” the 20-year-old athlete wrote alongside the clip.

In the video, Dunne can be seen in her LSU leotard while mouthing the words, “If you don’t like me, that’s fine, but, you know, watch your mouth.”

Some of the New Jersey native’s six million TikTok followers then took to the comments to express their support.

“I only read the Livvy Times,” one fan wrote, while another replied, “We are DUNNE with ny times.”

Dunne’s growing social media presence was recently chronicled by The Times, in addition to her bottom line. While highlighting her earnings, however, the publication noted, “The new flood of money — and the way many female athletes are attaining it — troubles some who have fought for equitable treatment in women’s sports and say that it rewards traditional feminine desirability over athletic excellence.”

Dunne, who frequently shares photos and videos of herself modeling everyday wear and swimsuits, fired back at The Times in an Instagram Story, where she posted a pic from the shoot.

“Is this too much?” Dunne wrote.
