Police officers in Louisiana were captured on video repeatedly punching, kicking and tasing a man who later died in their custody, according to newly released footage.

In the clip obtained by KSLA, four officers are seen wrestling with 44-year-old Tommie McGlothen in Shreveport on April 5.

One of the officers slugs McGlothen several times and another hits him with a baton, according to the more than four-minute cellphone video. The person who recorded the video then says the officers were using a Taser on him.

The cops eventually cuffed him and put him in a police car, where he sat unsupervised for nearly 50 minutes before officers discovered him passed out and not breathing.

McGlothen died the next day at a local hospital. The police involved in the arrest are under investigation.

The cops confronted McGlothen after he allegedly pulled up to a house in the city and blocked the driveway with his car. He then followed the homeowner into the house before cops arrived.

Cops said McGlothen was “mumbling incoherently” and “exhibiting signs of paranoia and emotional disturbance” before the struggle.

The local coroner said McGlothen died of “excited delirium,” but added his death could have been prevented if he had been given medical care after being arrested.

“Mr. McGlothen had underlying heart disease and clearly was suffering from excited delirium. The combination of these factors caused his death,” said Dr. Todd Thoma, the Caddo Parish coroner.

Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins said at a council meeting Monday that he’s concerned with how city police are treating those with mental illness.

“Shreveport police officers are charged with serving and protecting all of our citizens, that includes those with mental illness,” Perkins said.

“We’re responsible for those in our custody,” he added.
