A Queens firefighter is back on the payroll after being suspended in June for posting a photoshopped picture that mocked the death of George Floyd.

FDNY firefighter Daniel Ambrosio, who is assigned to Engine Co. 303 in Jamaica, Queens, was sidelined June 6 for “violating Fire Department policy,” according to FDNY spokesman Jim Long.

Ambrosio, according to reports, posted a photoshopped picture in the Engine Company chatroom of a naked black man sitting on Floyd’s neck with the caption, “Too Soon?”

FDNY officials suspended Ambrosio for 20 days without pay after an outraged firefighter complained.

The post went up a few days after Floyd died on May 25, when Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for nearly 8 minutes.

Khalid Baylor, president of the Vulcan Society of black firefighters, told The Chief newspaper he had seen the image posted by Ambrosio.

“It was nasty, vile and racist and can’t be dumbed down to be just a joke,” Baylor said. “To make a distorted picture of somebody whose life was lost is very disgusting.”

Long said in a statement that the 42-year-old Ambrosio “has served his suspension and has been detailed to an administrative position while the department reviews / investigates the reported incident.”

The smoke-eater was benched for violating the FDNY EEO and social media policies, the department said.

Ambrosio, who resides in Lynbrook, L.I.,  did not return messages seeking comment.
