#Mike Pence backs Elon Musk on releasing Twitter’s Post censorship file

“Mike Pence backs Elon Musk on releasing Twitter’s Post censorship file”

Former Vice President Mike Pence has backed Elon Musk’s push to release files linked to Twitter’s suppression of The Post’s Hunter Biden laptop expose, insisting the decision to censor it was a “disgrace.”

“Elon Musk is exactly right,” Pence, 63, said during an appearance on Fox News’ “Outnumbered” talk show on Wednesday.

Surrounded by four female panelists, Pence — who doesn’t dine out alone with women unless it’s his wife — agreed with the new Twitter CEO’s belief that tyranny lies ahead in the US if free speech is lost.

Pence went on to rip the Biden administration a day after White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said officials were “keeping an eye” on Musk’s pro-free speech reforms at Twitter.

The ex-veep suggested that some within the White House were probably nervous given the free speech suppression files the billionaire has teased he’ll release will likely include internal memos on how Twitter decided to censor the story on President Biden’s son.

“I think it may well be because Elon Musk, who I came to know very well during the four years of the Trump administration, I think it’s because he is preparing to release information, finally, about the suppression of the Hunter Biden story, which … was a disgrace,” Pence said.

“The fact that a laptop was discovered in the weeks before the election, that emails were revealed and that social media platforms, including Twitter, actually suppressed access to a New York Post story is deeply offensive to me.”

Pence noted that Twitter wasn’t the only one to take extraordinary censorship measures to limit the sharing of the story detailing the trove of emails discovered on Hunter’s laptop in October 2020.

Facebook had also blocked people from sharing the article.

“The fact that they’re going to come out with the information, I have to believe that some people are walking around in the west wing — it’s one of the reasons they’re keeping a close eye,” Pence said.

It came as Yoel Roth, the former Twitter executive and safety chief who played a key role in censoring the expose, admitted it was a mistake.

In an interview with journalist Kara Swisher on Tuesday, Roth appeared to deflect the blame from himself on the controversial decision — insisting that even though he had concerns about the authenticity of the laptop, it never got to the point where he thought the story should be suppressed.

“We didn’t know what to believe, we didn’t know what was true, there was smoke — and ultimately for me, it didn’t reach a place where I was comfortable removing this content from Twitter,” Roth said during an interview at the Knight Foundation conference.

“But it set off every single one of my finely tuned APT28 ‘hack and leak campaign’ alarm bells.”

Asked if it was a mistake for Twitter to have blocked the story from being shared, Roth responded: “In my opinion, yes.”

Musk, who has vowed to turn Twitter into a bastion of free speech, has previously insisted full disclosure was needed to determine why the social media giant decided to block the bombshell report in the weeks leading up to the 2020 election.

He has been teasing the release of internal files about the decision for several days, arguing that the “public deserves to know what really happened.”

Musk had already made his stance clear on the debacle, saying back in April that the platform’s decision to restrict the sharing of The Post’s report was “obviously incredibly inappropriate.”

And Yoel Roth, who was Twitter’s head of trust and safety until he quit earlier this month in the wake of Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover, confessed Tuesday that the company erred in restricting people from sharing the scoop.
