A memorial service is underway in Minneapolis, Minnesota for George Floyd 10 days after the black man was murdered by a police officer there, sparking international outrage and widespread demonstrations against police brutality in his name.

The service, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CST/ 2 p.m. EST, will be held at North Central University’s sanctuary in downtown Minneapolis and Rev. Al Sharpton is expected to give the eulogy, CBS reported.

Other speakers include Floyd’s relatives and Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who’s now representing the family, the outlet said.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly 9-minutes after he was arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill at a grocery store.

The death caused widespread outrage and set off riots, looting and massive peaceful protests in all 50 states and abroad where demonstrators demanded accountability, reforms in the police department or an outright abolishment of cops all together.

Chauvin, originally charged with third-degree murder, which is killing without intent, saw those charges upgraded to second-degree murder Wednesday and the three other cops involved in the arrest were also cuffed and brought to jail.
