This weekend, the 2021 live-action Tokyo Revengers film was broadcast on Japanese television for the first time. The airing also came with big news: a sequel film!

Tokyo Revengers 2 will continue the big-screen adaptation of Ken Wakui‘s sci-fi/action manga, which currently has over 65 million copies in circulation worldwide. Takumi Kitamura will once again play protagonist Takemichi Hanagaki, with Tsutomu Hanabusa returning to direct.

Kitamura says he’s looking forward to seeing his fellow cast members and doing martial arts again. Wakui is also excited about the new adaptation of his manga, noting that we’ll get to see new cast members in action.

Tokyo Revengers 2 is slated to premiere in Japan sometime in 2023.
