She’s also shared a video for the new song “Body.” It features appearances from Taraji P Henson, Jordyn Woods, Blac Chyna, Daren Kyle, Asian Doll, Bernice Burgos, and Maliibu Miitch. Watch it below.
The first track, “Shots Fired,” appears to be a response to Tory Lanez; she has repeatedly said Lanez shot her in July. (Tory Lanez has pled not guilty to assault with a semiautomatic handgun.) She opened up about the incident in a New York Times op-ed titled “Why I Speak Up for Black Women.”
The credits reveal production from Juicy J, Mustard, Scott Storch, Tay Keith, Buddha Bless, Avedon, J.R. Rotem, Lil Ju, Cool & Dre, and others. Mike Dean is listed as one of the album’s engineers.
2020 has been a big year for Megan Thee Stallion. She kicked things off in January with the Normani collaboration “Diamonds” for the Harley Quinn movie Birds of Prey. She went on to make songs with Phony Ppl (“Fkn Around”), Tyga (“Freak”), DaBaby (“NASTY”), Young Dolph (“RNB”), DJ Chose (“THICK (Remix)”), and, of course, Cardi B, with whom she made “WAP,” which had the biggest streaming debut week of all time.
Meg has featured on Quibi’s Punk’d and performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, at the BET Awards, at her own virtual concert, and on Saturday Night Live. She’s been honored at the BET Awards, the BET Hip Hop Awards, and the MTV Video Music Awards and also made the TIME 100. She even launched a scholarship fund.
Megan Thee Stallion has also dealt with controversy in 2020, including a legal dispute with her label 1501 Certified Entertainment. In her powerful SNL performance during which she also called for justice for Breonna Taylor, she stated, “We need to protect our Black women. And love our Black women.”
