#Listen to Episode 19 of ‘Pinstripe Pod’: Yankees Embarrassing Red Sox feat. Homer Bush

August 17, 2020 | 2:29pm

Is the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry a thing of the past? On the latest episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and four-time Yankees World Series champion Jeff Nelson, the guys talk about the Yankees’ three wins over the Red Sox. They get into just how dominant the Yankees have been over their division rival and how bad the Red Sox are this season. Nellie calls their pitching staff the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The guys discuss the rebuild going on in Boston and why there never could be any sort of rebuild in the Bronx. They both rant over how tough it is to listen to Alex Rodriguez in the broadcast booth and some of the bizarre comparisons he makes. Nellie turned the volume off the TV down and turned the music up. The guys talk about Aaron Hicks’ approach against the shift and him needing to focus on beating the shift and getting on base instead of swinging for the fences, especially as the leadoff hitter. They get into Aaron Judge’s injury, him saying he is 100% now and kind of throwing the training staff under the bus. They also talk about DJ LeMahieu landing on the IL, the week ahead against the Rays and J.A. Happ’s vesting option for 2021.

Then 1998 Yankees World Series champion Homer Bush joins the show. Bush talks about coming over to the Yankees, that 1998 team, his role on the team and the intimidation of coming to Yankee Stadium and being surrounded by great players. He talks about Joe Torre being a “father-like” manager to the players. Bush talks about Ozzie Smith being his all-time favorite player and the funny story of the first time meeting him during the 1998 World Series. He discusses his book “Hitting Low In The Zone” and why he wrote it. He talks about wanting to coach in the big leagues, not getting the shot yet after coaching briefly with the Padres and not giving away his knowledge for free. Bush also talks about staying ready, injuries shortening his career and the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues.
